California Salubrious Kids Survey Administration Now Open
California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is a comprehensive youth health risk and resilience behavior data collection service available to all California districts, sponsored by the California Department of Educational activity (CDE). It consists of a comprehensive survey instrument that assesses all major areas of health-related behavior, too as a total-service survey back up arrangement to help districts collect and utilize CHKS data to amend prevention and wellness programs.
At Capistrano Unified School District the survey is administered to 5, 7, 9 and eleven-grade students in January-Feb. Food and Diet Outstanding Balances

Capistrano Unified Announces Next Superintendent
Kirsten Vital to Lead the Highest-Performing, Big School District in California
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO— Kirsten M. Vital has been named the new Superintendent of the Capistrano Unified School District, succeeding Dr. Joseph M. Farley who will retire on July 1, 2014, equally the leader of Orangish County'southward second-largest school commune.

Wagon Wheel Elementary School Destination Imagination Squad to Compete in Global Finals
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — A team of 5th-graders from Wagon Wheel Uncomplicated School in Coto de Caza will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, on May twenty-25 to compete in the Global Destination Imagination Challenge with 1,400 teams from 45 states and 14 countries. Destination Imagination is an international organization for elementary through college-age students that teaches life skills, fosters creativity and teamwork, and expands imagination through team-based creative problem solving.
The schoolhouse's Destination Imagination (DI) team, Spontaneous Combustion, was runner-up in the Land DI Tournament in their respective division in March and captured kickoff-place in the DI regionals in February, qualifying them to compete in the Global Finals at the Academy of Tennessee. The six-member team includes Miya Stoddard, Alex Rohleder, Chase Kotowitz, Ryan Horio, Zoe Parker, and Savannah Londre.

The nomination period for the Capistrano Unified School District 2013 Classified Employee of the Year Program ends Friday, March 21.

TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN UPDATE: May 23, 2012
We are pleased to denote that CUSD is offering the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) plan for autumn of 2012. To qualify, students must turn five years erstwhile Nov. 2-December. ii, 2012. The CUSD Parent Portal is at present available for parents of all current Thousand-12 students. District Offers Programs for Students to Stay Agile, Engaged During Suspension

Student Fees
California law does not permit school districts to charge fees to students for curricular and extracurricular activities. SCHOOLS Closed ON FRIDAY DUE TO POWER OUTAGE
All schools in the Capistrano Unified School Commune (CUSD) will be closed on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, due to the power outage affecting Southern Orangish and San Diego counties.
The District, like many school districts serviced by San Diego Gas and Electric, has decided to cancel classes for its students. A decision regarding Friday evening sporting events has not yet been fabricated.
"We accept no balls that power will be restored by the fourth dimension school begins tomorrow morning time, and local emergency jurisdictions have advised the District to append classes until power is restored," Superintendent Joe Farley said. "Nosotros are distressing for the obvious inconvenience to our working families, but it is conspicuously not proper to have students in schoolhouse without electricity to power fundamental systems including lights, refrigeration, and computers."

Fee-based GATE/AAA Exam Offered
Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) is offering public and private school parents living within the CUSD purlieus area an opportunity to have their children take the fee-based Otis-Lennon School Abilities Examination (OLSAT). The OLSAT is used by CUSD to identify students for the Accelerated Bookish Achievement/Gifted and Talented Program (AAA/GATE). The OLSAT tests both verbal and nonverbal reasoning.
CUSD students who meet the criteria set up past the District volition exist invited to take the OLSAT in January 2009 at their school site. (The criterion for OLSAT testing is listed on the CUSD AAA/GATE website at world wide web.capousd.org/aaa http://world wide web.capousd.org/aaa .) Invitations to accept the January school site OLSAT will be mailed dwelling the first week of December 2008. If a parent does not receive an invitation to take the OLSAT, he/she may take his/her child have the fee-based OLSAT on February 7, 2009. Students who score at or above the 95th percentile on the OLSAT qualify for the AAA/GATE programme in the fall.
The fee-based OLSAT will be offered on Saturday, Feb vii, 2009 at George White Elementary School, in Laguna Niguel (Grades 2-8) and on Saturday, Feb 7, 2009 at Capistrano Valley High School, in Mission Viejo (Grades ix-x). The cost for taking the OLSAT is $65.00. OLSAT registration forms will be available in all CUSD school administration buildings in December. Parents may also download the Fee-Based AAA/GATE Exam Application from the CUSD AAA/GATE Website at www.capousd.org/aaa. Checks and registration forms must be postmarked by January 21, 2009 or delivered to the AAA/GATE Office before 4:30 pm on January 22, 2009, so that the appropriate number of tests tin be ordered. No late registrations volition exist accustomed.
Please Note: Kindergarten, first grade students, and students who have taken the OLSAT/NNAT in January 2009 at their school site are not eligible to have the Fee-Based OLSAT in February.

The Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees will convene a series of meetings to talk over the electric current budget shortfall and possible mid-yr cuts, in improver to cuts for the 2009/x and 2010/eleven school years, and how these cuts will impact the district and schools. The public is encouraged to attend.
The meetings will be held at the CUSD District office on the following dates and times:
Wednesday, November 12th at 6:30 PM
Tuesday, November 18th at 6:00 PM
Tuesday, December 2nd at half dozen:00 PM
A regular Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 8th at seven:00 PM.

Wagon Bicycle Students Vote!
On Nov 4th, Wagon Wheel was not simply a voting site for the General Ballot, but it was also host to our school's 2008-2009 Student Council campaign.
Students heard from candidates and volition voted on the following leadership positions:
President
Vice President
Secretarial assistant
Spirit Director
Publicity Chairperson
Community Service Managing director
Historian
Congratulations to all of those who prepared such persuasive statements and to those who volition concord leadership positions in the 2008-2009 Student Quango!
